        What is a Notary Public?A notary public is a person appointed by the Governor and commissioned by the Secretary of State of each individual state to serve as an impartial witness to the signing of important documents, verify identities and signatures or administer oaths and affirmations. Each State determines the length of time its notaries serve. In Indiana, the term is 8 years.

        Why is having a Notary Important?Notaries are impartial third parties. Do you want to make sure the person you’re doing business with is who they say they are? Get a Notary Do you need to make sure a signature is legit? Get a Notary Do you need to swear information in a document is correct? Get a Notary Do you need to prove the copy of a document is an exact replica of the original? Get a Notary These are just a few of the reasons you may need a notary. The notary process verifies: 1. The identities of the parties 2. The document is completed so it can’t be changed later 3. The parties understand what they’re doing 4. The parties are participating of their own free will

        What Should I Bring to My Notary Appointment?1. All notary appointment require a personal appearance so bring yourself. 2. You’ll need a government issued photo ID. For example, driver’s license or non-driver State issued ID card; passport or military ID card. OR If you don’t have an ID, bring two (2) credible witnesses who do have the types of identification mentioned above. IN ORDER TO COUNT AS A CREDIBLE WITNESS the people you bring to vouch for you have to be A) Someone you know and B) are not a party to the transaction or have a financial interest. Your credible witnesses will show their ID to prove their own identity, then swear or affirm that you are who you say you are. 3. Bring the document to be notarized. 4. Bring a form of payment. The Fine Point Notary accepts all major credit cards; cash; check; Apple Pay and PayPal.

        Can You Notarize My Document Online?Yes! The Fine Point Notary is commissioned for both in-person and remote online notarization. That means you, as the client can be anywhere in a world (as long as your document has something to do with a U.S. interest). The notary always has to be within the state they’re commissioned in while conducting a notarization. Not all notaries offer remote online notarization. Remember: You still have to show up yourself, and bring your government issued photo ID or two credible witnesses. Remote Online Notarization also provides several extra layers of identity verification and security. Some people prefer this type of notarization for its convenience and security.

        What if I Want In-Person Notarization but My Document is Digital?No problem! This is called an In-Person Electronic Notarization. The Fine Point Notary will come to you just like a traditional notarization, but instead of paper we’ll use a tablet or laptop to complete the notarization. Some people choose this type of service because you get in-person service with the security of an electronic document.

        What is a Mobile NotaryA mobile Notary is a Notary Public that offers to come to you for your notarization. These services can be arranged anytime day or night. At The Fine Point Notary if you need in-person service after dark we will offer the closest public, well lit area/establishment as a neutral meeting location. If a public meeting place does not work for you, Remote Online Notarization is a great option for immediate service or make an appointment for daylight hours.
